The Fabrication Manager provides leadership and direction to the fabrication team in order to achieve high quality products on time and under budget, while coordinating and communicating with multiple departments and a team of Project Managers working on multiple projects concurrently. The Fabrication Manager creates and manages work flow processes and controls to ensure production is maximized at its lowest cost while being delivered within required project timelines. This position is also responsible for working with the Engineering department to develop new product lines, manage custom product development, and increase production on current product lines, while reducing operational costs and maintaining an excellent quality level.
Some of the duties that this position entails are below:
• Meet with Project Managers on new projects to determine the type of products and services required for their particular projects.
• Organize and manage the weekly production schedule.
• Coordinate with the Warehouse team to ensure inventory is stocked for production.
• Coordinate with the Purchasing team to ensure parts are ordered and received in time for scheduled production.
• Meet with the Engineering staff on existing product lines to review quality, production rates, and production costs.
• Meet with the Engineering staff and Project Managers to develop and test new products to market to our Estimating and Project Management teams.
• Responsible for insuring that all shop employees follow documented instructions given on the shop orders in order to control product quality throughout the fabrication process.
• Analyze shop drawings and work orders to plan layout and assembly for custom products on a per project basis.
• Provide training and education to staff on new equipment, new systems and protocols to improve production rates.
• Provide quarterly production rate information to Estimating staff for potential new projects.
• Track labor and material resources to each product and project.
• Create and manage product inspection systems as part of the quality performance ensurance program.
• Track and report monthly product returns and/or deficiencies.
• Responsible for maintaining an adequate supply of departmental shop supplies and materials.
• Facilitate employee hiring, training and development. Ensure training and education on specific tasks and Company related functions.
• Enforce safety rules through ongoing communication and Toolbox meetings.
• Ensure equipment and tools are secure and used correctly.
• Review and approve timesheets and timecard codes on a weekly basis.
• Ensure housekeeping is ongoing and maintain a clean, organized and safe workplace.
• Coordinate fabrication shop product deliveries with the Warehouse team.
• Create and manage annual tooling and machinery budget.
• Provide guidance and leadership to all employees to ensure effective and efficient flow of work, and ensure all employees recognize their fundamental role in the production process.
