Work Environment
The Utility Operator works primarily in an outdoor and industrial steel mill environment. Employees are regularly exposed to moving machinery, heavy equipment traffic, elevated work areas, and high-temperature processes. A strong commitment to safety and teamwork is essential for success in this role.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Ability to work safely in a heavy industrial environment.
- Ability to frequently lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding work.
- Willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions and around heat, dust, noise, and moving equipment.
- Strong attendance and reliability record.
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Previous experience in steel mills, manufacturing, construction, mining, industrial services, or heavy equipment operations.
- Experience operating mobile equipment.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Valid driver's license.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, climbing, and reaching.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toe boots, hearing protection, and respiratory protection when required.
- Ability to work around extreme temperatures, dust, vibration, and noise.
