POSITION SUMMARYUnder the general direction of more skilled technicians, the Tech Trainee primarily performs helper duties for employees in the Service Department. The Tech Trainee may at times perform unskilled or semiskilled duties in assigned areas. The Tech Trainee will remain in the specific Trainee classification for a minimum period of 1 year. During this period, the Tech Trainee will attend all assigned training classes and obtain passing grades.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Disassembles, cleans, and reassembles Caterpillar, allied product machines, and Ag& Turf and industrial products serviced by the Service Department.
Measures and identifies parts and components for reusability or replacement, ordering new parts as required.
Performs all requirements found in Caterpillar and other allied lubrication and maintenance and warranty guidelines.
Attends training classes as directed and obtains passing grades.
Completes Service Reports in a timely manner and in accordance with HPC standards.
Travel as required within HPC established territory.
Operates HPC service vehicles.
Adheres strictly to HPC safety, housekeeping, credit, and other rules, policies, and procedures.
Maintains a favorable business relationship with customers, suppliers, and personnel from other HPC departments.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Walking: Moves about on foot, often through uneven terrain.
Hands/arms: Operates equipment and hand and power tools.
Handling: Seizes, helps, or works with hands.
Lifting: Raises or lowers miscellaneous equipment parts and tools.
Reaching: Extends hands and arms in any direction.
Stooping: Bends body downward and forward by bending at knees or waist.
Standing: Remains in standing position if required to perform various functions of the job.
Climbing: In and out of equipment.
Raising/Lowering: Goes up and down in man lifts.
Vision: Reads work tickets and parts and service books and operates heavy equipment.
Talking: Communicates by radio, phone, and in person.
Hearing: Hears well enough to discern mechanical problems for safety in and around shop and construction sites and to receive communication by radio, phone, and in person.
Sitting: Sits in equipment and vehicles for extended periods.
Laying: Lies in prone position under vehicles and equipment for extended periods.
Lifting: Lifts up to 60lbs. daily, frequent exertion.
