Skills & Keywords
Additional Information
SummaryRequires precision welding of company and customer products in compliance with rigid customer and engineering specifications and requirements using GTAW process. Characteristic of this classification is welding product parts and assemblies (normally in areas of easy access on flat or horizontal surfaces) in accordance with customer specifications and requirements, using gas, inert gas arc. At least one of the following alloy groups in accordance with AWS D17.1 and QOP-62-02, in Groups I, II, III, IV, and VI.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities includes the following and all other duties as assigned:
COMPETENCIESTo perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:
- Shall qualify to AWS D17.1 and QOP-62-02 which includes but is not limited to Groups I, II, III, IV, and VI. Weld shall pass visual, radiographic and metallographic examinations. Must understand all weld symbols and weld specifications
- Determines from nature of assignments, blueprints, welding manuals, and established procedures, the sequence of welding operations, tolerances and dimensional requirements and correct relationship of parts.
- Performs difficult gas, inert gas arc or metallic arc welding of any types of metals and their alloys on all surfaces (flat, horizontal, vertical or circular) of product parts and assemblies in compliance with customer and engineering specifications and requirements where procedures are well established and incorrect weldments and parent metal failures can be readily detected and repaired.
- Weld various types of metals and alloys used in the construction of product, parts, assemblies and equipment involving difficult type of welding such as:
- Thin materials (.010" or lighter to .100โ)
- Thin materials to castings.
- Thick materials (.101โ to .5โ)
- Close to edge (.050" or less) where edge may be readily burned off unless special care is taken.
- Thick to thin combination.
- Weld formed parts and assemblies where surface profile, finish and contour is critical.
- Weld tanks, pressure vessels, piping, and similar items where soundness and penetration of the weld is a vital factor.
- Weld parts and assemblies where application of heat to surfaces is a prime factor of distortion and warping which must be held to a minimum in order to maintain specified dimensions and tolerances after welding.
- Layout locations of welds and make own setups as required by written instructions.
- Technical Skills - Pursues training and development opportunities; Strives to continuously build knowledge and skills; Shares expertise with others.
- Quality - Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness; Looks for ways to improve and promote quality; Applies feedback to improve performance; Monitors own work to ensure quality.
- Quantity - Meets productivity standards; Completes work in timely manner; Strives to increase productivity; Works quickly.
- Safety and Security - Observes safety and security procedures; Reports potentially unsafe conditions; Uses equipment and materials properly.
- Attendance/Punctuality - Is consistently at work and on time; Ensures work responsibilities are covered when absent.
- Dependability - Follows instructions, responds to management direction; Takes responsibility for own actions; Keeps commitments; Completes tasks on time or notifies appropriate person with an alternate plan.
